In a statement following the European Union Foreign Ministers Council meeting held on 14 October 2024 in Luxembourg, the European Union High Representative Josep Borrell made a strong statement on behalf of the 27 member states underlighting the importance of Morocco-UE “strategic partnership” to which the EU attaches “immense value”.
While emphasizing the significant mutual benefits and shared objectives between Morocco and the EU, Joesph Borell highlighted both parties’ collective commitment to strengthening the longstanding, multidimensional cooperation that has been evolving over decades, with a shared vision for deepening ties in the future.
Borrell’s statements also addressed the recent rulings of the Court of Justice of the EU on fisheries and agricultural agreements between the EU and Morocco. He reaffirmed, together with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the EU’s commitment to strengthening these ties in all areas, in line with the principle of respect for commitments made, “pacta suntservanda”.
Through Borrell, the 27 also expressed their commitment to “strengthening” and “preserving” the partnership in all fields. In his statement, Borrell promised that the Partnership would see positive developments in the coming months.
“In close collaboration with Morocco, the EU aims to continue nurturing and safeguarding this invaluable partnership in all areas,” Borrell concluded, encapsulating the EU’s proactive stance towards fostering stability and prosperity in the region.
