Mother Kitchen

The Embassy of Portugal and the Camões – Portuguese Cultural Centre proudly present “My Mother’s Kitchen”, a theatre play created especially to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Pact of Friendship and Trade between Portugal and Thailand.

Set in the Thai home and kitchen of Grandmother Mon, the play showcases the deep connection between family tradition and daily life and the challenges of new relationships and honest communication among family members. The action is all connected through Grandma Mon’s recipe book that has been passed down for generations from Portuguese and Thai ancestors. The focus is on the very special thong yip recipe, improved over time thanks to new additions to the family.

The play was written by the Thai writer Jaturachai Srichanwanpen and directed by the Thai actress and director Pattarasuda Anuman Rajadhon. The cast includes James Lever, Nalinee Sitasuwan, Pariya Wongrabiab and Nualpanod Nat Khianpukdee, with a special appearance by Kevin Colleary. The play will be performed in Thai and English with English and Portuguese subtitles.

“My Mother’s Kitchen” will be performed from 18th to 21st of February at KBank Siam Pic Ganesha, at 8PM. Payment information and reservations can be made by email to patricia.teixeiraferreira@mne.pt or phone 022 342 123 ext. 404. Each ticket costs 500 baht and student tickets cost 200 baht.
